Companionship

Companionship

Seniors often feel isolated and lonely as they get older especially if they are living on their own. In-home care can often meet the social needs of seniors. LumaCare companions monitor the safety, health and wellness of their senior clients, assist with household chores, and offer social interaction. More specifically, LumaCare companions provide caring and compassionate conversation, plan social activities and encourage physical and mental activity.

Housekeeping

Housekeeping

Maintaining a clean and clutter-free home is important to maintaining the health and wellbeing of seniors. An unclean environment allows germs to thrive, increasing the likelihood of exposure to potentially harmful bacteria. Unnecessary clutter increases the likelihood of items being misplaced and potentially presents an obstacle to mobility. LumaCare personnel can assist with creating and maintaining a clean and organized environment. Housekeeping tasks can include:

  • Maintaining cleanliness of home (dusting, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming)
  • Bathroom cleaning and organization
  • Bedroom maintenance (linen change, bed maintenance)
  • Kitchen maintenance (cleaning the kitchen countertops and fridge)
  • Organizing clutter
  • Collecting and taking out trash
  • Laundry (folding and ironing clothes)
  • Washing dishes
Meals

Meals

Eating a balanced diet with proper nutrition is necessary for keeping in good health. For seniors with physical or mental impairments, grocery shopping and preparing meals may present significant obstacles to good nutrition. Our caregivers assess nutritional needs and assist in creating meal plans for seniors to help them stay in good health. Meal preparations services that our LumaCare caregivers can provide include:

  • Assistance with menu planning (taking into consideration dietary restrictions and other limitations)
  • Grocery shopping
  • Meal preparation (assistance or complete meal preparation)
  • Mealtime feeding assistance
  • Monitoring food and fluid intake
Transportation & Errands

Transportation & Errands

There comes a time when it is no longer safe for an aging driver to be out on the road. This could be the result of vision problems, slower reaction time, or other issues such as accidents, frequently lost keys or traffic violations/tickets. However, losing the ability to drive doesn’t have to mean losing independence.

LumaCare’s transportation services enable seniors to get to doctor’s appointments, run errands, and see friends and family without the risk of getting behind the wheel. Whether it is picking up a prescription or dry cleaning, running to the grocery store or post office, LumaCare personnel ease the burden on behalf of clients.

Personal Care

Personal Care

Performing the activities of daily living, such as dressing, grooming, cooking, eating, and bathing, are tasks that may become more challenging for seniors. LumaCare’s qualified and compassionate caregivers provide assistance with many different personal care activities.

Personal care services can be provided with full assistance or stand by assistance. We will work to customize a personal care plan for each of our clients. Below are a few of the personal care services LumaCare caregivers can provide:

  • Assistance with bathroom activities (incontinence, inconsistency, urgency, accidents)
  • Assistance with dressing
  • Assistance with personal hygiene (hair care, skin care, oral hygiene)
  • Assistance with mobility (walking, light exercise to retain and strengthen mobility)
  • Special diet / meal preparation
  • Mealtime feeding assistance
  • Medication reminder services (organizing pill box, logging medication intake)
Live-in Care

Live-in Care

When a senior can no longer live safely at home without assistance, but wishes to remain at home, live-in care may be the best solution. Many people wrongly assume that they need the services of a live-in nurse for care, when in most cases the assistance required is primarily non-medical in nature.

The LumaCare personnel can be with the client throughout the day, providing companionship and personal care assistance including bedtime preparation, and remain in the home throughout the night. Back-up caregivers are trained for each client to maintain consistent care when the primary caregiver is ill or on vacation.

By providing live-in services, the client and family members gain peace of mind in knowing there is a compassionate caregiver in the home with the client around the clock. LumaCare creates personalized live-in care plans that can include the following:

  • Full-time caregiver in the home
  • Assistance with daily activities
  • Companionship (reading, listening and conversing)
  • Light housekeeping and laundry
  • Assistance with mobility
  • Reminder services (medications, dates, routines, etc.)
  • Assistance with meal planning, preparation and feeding
  • Assistance with bedtime preparation (getting into and out of bed, dressing)
  • Overnight presence
